Frank Frazetta (1928–2010) was an American artist regarded as one of the most gifted in the fantasy and science-fiction genres.
His distinct style, epitomized by muscular men and voluptuous women commonly rendered with a dark palette, was an obvious influence on many of his contemporaries.
With only his imagination as reference, Franzetta painted with such persuasive accuracy that the viewer often accepted one of his landscapes as if it were the camera’s vision.
At 16, Frazetta started drawing for comic books that varied in themes: westerns, fantasy, mysteries, histories and other contemporary themes.
Although the main part of his comics output was limited to the 1940s and 1950s, Frank Frazetta’s dynamic and realistic style was of influence for several new generations of comic artists.
Frazetta became a paperback cover illustrator, paintiing covers for the ‘Conan the Barbarian’ books, novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and more.
As an illustrator, Frazetta proved himself one of the main representatives of the heroic-fantasy genre.
