I always wondered what it would have been like taking LSD and seeing all these remarkable visions — kaleidoscope eyes, newspaper taxis, marmalade skies. I never took LSD, had/have no intention on doing so, but it sounded so — CREATIVE.

I have always had a connection to and with John Lennon and I also saw the interviews where he was most candidly explaining that song, and I am sorry folks, NO ONE is that good at FAKING that kind of sincerity. When you are a writer, and you pen something that others don’t quite “get” (may I bring the Jabberwocky to the forefront, or Hey Diddle Diddle) then I guess there will always be that faction who raise eyebrows, and while pointing fingers, cast aspersions upon the poet. I have a former sister-in-law, who took a lyric line from a Bruce Springsteen song and publicly accused him of being a pedophile! Hey little girl, is your daddy home. Did he go away and leave you all alone. I got a bad desire. I’m on fire. (deep sigh)

    1. I saw the Beatles in Chicago in 1965 … and have followed ever since. I lost track of them during the psychedelic years, but rediscovered that part of their lives later in life. It’s funny — I believed Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds was all about an LSD trip … Until I listened to that song today and Googled the lyrics and found the truth. I can’t believe I believed the trash for so long. So it’s easy to see how others misinterpret songs they half way listen to. Thank you so much for sharing.

          1. this reminds me of when I saw Queen in Detroit, in the 80s. Actually, my sister had to remind me that I DID, in fact, SEE QUEEN, because I was there with her and one of our cousins. Billy Squire opened for them and remember that vividly. But I got so stoned, that I truly didn’t remember Freddie Mercury et al. How in the world could someone NOT remember seeing and hearing them… Once she reminded me, it all came back, as one of their encores was I’m I Love with My Car (which is one my Queen faves) and I recalled standing on my seat, scream singing it along with Roger Taylor. Dear me…

  2. Life gets busy, and without realizing it, we start giving less time to the people who gave us everything.
    We get caught up in work, responsibilities, and our own lives, while our parents quietly grow older.
    One day, you may wish for just one more conversation.
