Murat Bakmaz, born in Adana in 1982 to a family that migrated from Tunceli, Turkey, completed and his undergraduate and graduate studies at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Turkey.
Bakmaz, who started teaching at Gazi Multi-Program Anatolian High School in Sultangazi , became interested in photography in his second year of teaching.
His camera has accompanied him across 78 cities in Turkey and nearly 20 countries, giving him opportunities to photograph everything from everyday routines to landscapes, architecture, and local traditions.
Photographs explore themes of nature, people, and daily life, and who works on Istanbul by traversing the streets of the megacity, has crowned his success with numerous national and international awards.
His exquisite use of singular subjects against a colorful background have an almost 3D effect on the viewer.
“In photography talks, I realized that photography can be used just like language is used in literature,” Bakmaz says.
“I’m not sure if I use words very well, but I realized that I could express myself better with photography.”
