Bill Barrett (-1934) is an American sculptor, painter and jeweler.
He is considered a central figure in the second generation of American metal sculptors and is internationally known for his abstract sculptures in steel, aluminum and bronze.
Barrett earned a B.S. and M.S. in Design from the University of Michigan, and later an M.F.A. from the same institution.
Barrett’s sculptures of fabricated aluminum, bronze or steel address the interplay between positive and negative space with grace, elegance and exquisite balance.
His innovative use of materials and forms has inspired countless artists and reshaped the landscape of contemporary art.
Each sculpture tells a story and invites personal interpretation, allowing viewers to engage with the piece on a deeper level.
Barrett’s sculptures often feature intricate models and detailed metalworking techniques that create visual interest and emotional resonance.
His works call to mind the fluid effortlessness of calligraphic strokes, and betray a positivism to which many viewers feel drawn.

He really is. I think it must be harder to do free flowing art than painting a given landscape. Such smooth lines in such heavy metals.
