As a blogger, do you feel like you need to blog every day?
Believe it or not, that’s not always an easy question to answer.
I have read a number of blogs who faithfully post every day. My friend Ann does a marvelous job of filling her daily blog The Year(s) of Living Non-Judgmentally with pictures, videos, and interesting and fun commentaries on all kinds of daily life. My friend Ivor at Ivor.Plumber/Poet is another almost-if-not-every-day poet who shares the amazing beauty of the poetic word and world.
Then there’s blogs I follow where they contribute to the creative world a number of times a week. Purplerays from Udo is an inspirational, bright blog that highlights many spiritual and cosmic truths all the time. Michelle at My Inspired Life is also a frequent blogger whose poetry and images always make you feel magical.
There are also those who blog several times a day. They are avid writers and readers and love to share their discoveries with their followers. Georgiann at Rethinking Life shares the best pictures and poetry and thoughts several times as day, and her readers love it. Denise Sierra at Rainbow Wave of Life is a wonderful source of inspiration from both the spiritual and physical realm, and she manages to post these transcriptions a couple of times a day.
So after all these examples and affirmations and accolades I swirl back to my own blog. Sometimes I post every day, other times I let a day or two drift by before I think I have anything Creative to say.
I feel guilty not posting all the time, yet I can’t imagine anyone reading everything I write and post every day. My followers may reflect much interest, yet my site visits and comments do not reflect that. I am envious of those I follow who have thousands of followers; I am envious of those just starting out with something fresh and new and have only a few.
I know I spend too much time emoting about things that aren’t really a big deal in this world. And I know writers write because they really enjoy what they do. Like any creative artist, professional or not, we create because we love to create.
But how do we know what we do is still interesting? Are we doing the same kind of art that we did 10 years ago? Saying the same thing? Painting the same designs? Are we stuck in a comfortable (and for some, successful) rut?
Or are we evolving in our creative endeavors? Trying to be different than we were the other day? Last week? Last year?
And really — is there anything wrong with being in that comfortable rut?
Think I’ll continue to stir that Creative Art Pot for a while and adjust accordingly. Whatever’s in there is smelling good!
Are you still stirring your pot?
I only wish I had more time to write/blog. I have over 60 drafts that will likely never be published, and I still have thousands of paintings I would like to name and share, but there’s never enough time to read all the blogs I follow and write new posts!

Well, you CAN share your paintings with us and just name them TBA 1, TBA 2, etc. I’d love to see them! And I so agree about 60 drafts that are still waiting to see the light of day. Keep writing anyway and one day we can all read them!

You make me want to run over to your house and give you a big hug and say let’s go out for coffee! I hope you are letting your own Creative Bug out of its cage — do you have a website? And am I already following you? And am I getting even MORE senile asking these dumb questions??

HA! Nope, no website. I’m a techno-peasant. Wouldn’t know how to make one if I wanted to. I think more people than you might imagine read your posts, they just don’t respond. I forward yours to others all the time. As for my creative bug, I am returning to black and white illustration after a long absence. There’s one on my old drawing board now and a challenge. Ya know what they say, go big or go home. Considering doing the Artist’s Way program again. Last time was 1992 and after the 12 weeks was over, I continued with the morning pages for another 15 years. Then on and off since then. It’s a great practice when I get stuck. I may be almost 71 but it’s never too late for new horizons. https://webmail.centurylink.net/app/ress/img/RTE/emoticon2/wavey.gif]

We are like almost twins! I think 71 is just a new phase in our Creative journey. I would love to see your black and white illustrations. I am thinking of getting back into sketching in the near future, especially since I’ll be having a lot of “alone” time as my hubby and company plan to do a lot of fishing up North and I don’t want to be left here by myself. As for a website, Word Press is simple and free. A site called “WIP” or Work In Progress would give you an outlet you’ve been needing. Keep on keeping on and let me know where you go next!

Sent an attachment of a photo at the bottom of the response, but received an error message. So, not sure if you’ll receive it. They said they would keep trying. K.

I was shocked to see my name and blog site on your post. I don’t even know how to thank you for that great honor. Your blog is filled with beautiful art and wonderful musings. I don’t think that anything anyone has to say isn’t important. Truthfully…I write for myself. If my words or pictures connect with a certain tribe I consider my self extremely fortunate. I think blogs get our thoughts and ideas out of our heads and hearts, for not only everyone to see, but for us to see as well. I don’t think there are ruts. I think ruts are the way people work things out, by going over them again and again, until they understand what they are working through. I could be wrong, of course, but that’s the way it feels to me. As long as we reach even one person, that’s really all that matters. A blog, or post can change someone’s point of view, make them laugh, or even change their life. I think this method of communication is more important than any of realize. I look forward to your posts because I learn about new artists and find out what you’re thinking about. It’s all good. Thank you again for your generous words. I’m very grateful.

I read your posts all the time, and enjoy them all the time! I think you might be right about “ruts” — I don’t think there is anything really wrong with them. We function quite well in them, finding our groove and going for it. I just wonder if we should be doing the same thing 10 years later without a little updating or fine tuning. For myself, I started this blog when I truly was middle aged and wondering (and wandering). After a number of years I got tired of listening to myself whine or praise a new discovery. That’s why I went into quotes and images (upbeat quotes and unique pics) and of course the Gallery. It’s still an exciting direction to explore, even though I was fairly comfortable in my midlife (now senior) crisis. Thank you for being a part of my world.

I post irregularly. I wish I spent time every day in reading other people’s posts, commenting, etc. But even though I don’t, I think it is a help to me in my daily life, knowing that all of you other creative kind people are out there!

I also wish I could spend time every day reading and responding to posts, so I get you. I find that someetimes I’d rather be working on Angel Tears (or whatever Art I’m playing with at the tie) instead of sitting still reading others posts. Yet I feel guilty for I wonder what is the purpose of following someone if you don’t let them know you enjoy their writing? So I try a couple times a week to at least read and acknowledge that week’s offerings. I also know that if someone likes what you offer that they’ll be back to catch up on you sooner or later. I love your blog so I’m gonna still hang around you and your awesome work!

You pose some great questions, Claudia. Whatever and however people feel inspired or called to create should be their guide, and a wonderful gift for humanity. Thank you for including me in your essay – honored to be here and with great company – a few I am excited to learn more about. Your reaction to my work made me sparkly! 💖 Thank you!

Thank you for your kind words, my friend. I also find that I follow bloggers for different reasons. Some I go to mostly for cosmic inspiration (so to speak). Some I follow for their poetry. Others for their photography. And when I’m in need of inspiration, its easier to read someone’s blog than to go helter skelter across the internet. I know there’s a niche for all of us. And I am grateful for those who find I fall into theirs. I also believe in Creative Evolution, so the thought of ruts bother me after a while. Am so glad you are a part of my world!

I try to post once or twice a week. That seems to be enough for me. I continue to stir my creative pot. I love that analogy.

And I love your stirring! You keep your blog fresh and expanding, while staying true to what you do — writing. I find there are some blogs that encourage response, and others that are more statement oriented, no comment really needed. I’m glad to be a part of your world.

This is such a great post. I will have to check out the people you reference. I know that I almost feel guilty when I don’t write but you make a good point that sometimes you should just go with the flow. Look forward to reading more.

Never feel guilty about not writing! (although I just said the same thing…duh). I’d rather know people are busy doing their Creative Thing and not having time to sit and read rather than those who do nothing but sit and read blogs all day long. Life is for living and creating! I went looking for you and couldn’t find you! What’s your blog addy? I’ll gladly come on over!
