Rogan Brown is a British artist based in France whose work explores the architecture of natural forms.

The artist studied at Goldsmiths’ College and holds an MA from Queen Mary University.

Brown’s method — cutting thousands of layers of paper either meticulously by hand or with the aid of laser technology — stands in stark contrast to the digital-native practices that dominate contemporary aesthetics.

Scientific illustration and model-making inspire his intricate paper sculptures, some of which take up to 5 months to complete.

The patterns and forms Rogan depicts may stem from nature, but on a bigger scale they take on an otherworldly look.

His labor-intensive process places him within a broader craft revival that challenges industrialization, speed, and mechanization.

His works, rooted in biology and ecology yet executed with obsessive handcraft and advanced laser cutting, situate him within a critical crosscurrent of contemporary art practice.

simply fascinating… I want to touch them all, ever so slightly, but I know that would be a no-no

I am a very tactile person as well, so I’m tempted to touch all sorts of surfaces. These are amazing.

That’s about as close as I’d ever get — and now, being older, my hands find it a bit hard to stay steady for too long!

My hands are steady and I have a detail-cutting xacto knife. My choices are snowflake or massive hand injury! 😄
