The world is changing.
No S&it.
Among the changes I’ve noticed lately is that fewer and fewer people are blogging – at least out of the ones I follow.
Less people are sharing on Facebook as well. It’s become a world of advertising and posts from people I don’t know nor care about. I’m sure other platforms are blossoming with writers and poets and adventurers. But my own circle is narrowing.
Maybe people are too busy to post. Maybe they think stopping and writing something for the masses is a waste of time. After all, the masses are busy doing a thousand and one other things.
I keep my Facebook account to keep in touch with those I don’t really see anymore – old co-workers, friends from associations I no longer belong to, my kids’ friends. Their posts are often lost in the massive mess of advertising that plagues every social media site.
You can’t watch a movie on You Tube without commercial breaks. You can’t watch an old TV series without paying Netflix or Prime Video. And even then you have to pay for the privilege. There is always so much junk to sift through before you get to the actual point.
I used to be so excited to write my blog – I thought I had a lot to say about getting older, about being BoHo or things I’m constantly learning about myself and the world.
These days it all seems so ho-hum. No one is interested. Not because they’re not interested in ME – it’s more that they have tons of things to have to deal with in their own life. Perhaps I suffer from some of this ho-hum too.
It’s funny – I used to enjoy reading and commenting on others who are flubbering through life, on their sad empty days and their wildly full days like me. I guess I’m not as interested as I used to be.
Maybe all the s&it going on in my own country, my own world, has burned me out and away from reading much online these days. Things are just out of control. The powers that be want to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. Those who run the Kennedy Center say they will tear the building down if isn’t allowed to follow its plans for the site, including adding the president’s name to the front of the building. Tariffs and economic sanctions and bombings and lots of other things I don’t understand plague the air around me. Art and creativity are being changed and silenced and affected in ways I’ve never seen before every day.
It’s a scary place out there these days.
I’m glad I still have you to listen.
Keep posting. I’m listening.

Thank you for your honesty. I hope you keep on blogging. I have not been blogging as much as last year but I just decided to put a blog up every Monday. So my creativity will bloom… more I hope. WordPress has good people on here.

I know exactly what you mean. Although things are not so drastic here in Australia, we are certainly heading in the same direction. To keep sane I’m working as a volunteer more (I’m retired) at a local level in a children’s literacy group and a wholefood co-op with like minded people. I figure if I can do my best in our community that is beneficial to my neighbours and also my mental health !! Thanks for discussing this – big changes in our world eh XX

I think that’s wonderful — and it’s about the only way we can really help mold the future. We can’t directly do anything about the madness around us, so best to help others move forward. And as long as sharing artists makes me feel like I’m showing others part of the world they’ve never seen before, I’ll continue doing it. Thank you so much.

I’m on my 4th attempt to comment. I agree with you on the decrease in online communication in my own life.

Yep, same. I know I am busier and have less time to read, write and blog, but I think the overall world is shifting. Not sure if it’s in a good direction?

Time moves forward, no changing the past. I’m hoping things twist and turn around and people come back and be people again. Sharing their creativity whenever they can.

I understand what you are saying. Several bloggers I followed for years who have stopped posting. I’m not a consistent blogger. I’ve also noticed significantly fewer comments and traffic this past year-ish. I write for friends and family. I share on Facebook and that connection has become wonky. Is it WordPress or Facebook?
I’ve been careful to avoid politics. Not everyone shares my views and it seems “we” are so divided that a discussion about different views is risking losing a friend.
Please keep blogging and I will try respond.

And that’s what we need — more focus on being friends.

Maybe we are suffering from information overload. There’s just so much. Social media and news are mainly negative. Is that all there is? Bad news? Oh and lots of fear based stories too. The good stories aren’t getting as many clicks. Seems a lot has been high-jacked by angry argument, and so many I know, like myself, have just turned it off. However, I love your blog and hope you continue to share your light. So badly needed. They always brings a smile.

You make me feel really good. And I do love sharing the unique artists I find — where would you experience such amazing work otherwise? I need to just STOP reading the news. Check the headlines to make sure I didn’t miss a giant news story like a tsunami or airplane crash, and shut out the rhetoric that’s making me crazy.

Several bloggers I used to follow are no longer blogging. I miss them. I’ve never been a consistent blogger and link to facebook. Lately I’ve noticed the link looks wonky and not as many friends and family appear to be reading the blog. I rarely post anything political because not all my friends and family share my views. All the political division puts a damper on any discussion.
I’m also sad tonight because Dolly Parton died. She will be missed.

And Tim Curry. Two forms of Art that will feel the loss. Art is more than painting or ceramics — it’s putting your heart into something creative and sharing it with others. Blogging is one form, too. Maybe it’s just in transition.

Yeah … I’m down here, in Geelong, listening, and yes, for an old 75-year-old poet, I am incredibly busy … my blog/website has snowballed and turned into an avalanche … and as hard as I try, I can never catch up, Claudia … 🌏💙📘🎵

I love that. You are proof that there are still those who go out of their way to enjoy the Arts and thoughts of a seasoned veteran!❤️

I just wrote a long comment and it disappeared. I’m not sure why. I do agree with you. Blogging seems to be getting smaller and smaller. I think being happy is the best way to fight back against the morons who are filling everyone’s lives with hatred and division. Blogging should keep us together, but so many bloggers have gone missing. I think it’s too bad, since blogging is a great tool to keep in touch and be powerful together.

Your comment came through loud and clear, and I agree. Blogging is becoming part of the olden days. But I think I’ll keep up the unique art part and the faerie path quotes going for as long as it makes me feel good.

Did you click a button you were’nt supposed to? That’s what I always do… WordPress has been a bugger lately. I hate the new block system — I mess things up all the time. Then I don’t know how to fix what I’ve messed up. But I HAVE read you loud and clear and am so glad you’re here with me!

I feel the same way. I’m not sure where everyone went either. I think some people are overwwhelmd by the negative news and fear mongering that’s going on and they have become depressed or have given up. As far as I’m concerned, that’s what the bad guys want. To keep us even farther apart, so we are less powerful. I think we should be burning up our blogs and fighting back but, as you said, no one seem interested in things any longer. That’s scary. We don’t know what’s coming next, all we can do is live the happiest life we can, so we will drive them mad with our refusal to give in. But blogging does seem to be on its way out. Like you, not sure why. I think it’s important but so many have gone missing.

Thank you for your understanding and being in the middle of the confusion with me. Sometimes change is not just one thing… it’s an accumulation of changes in all of our lives. Changes we can’t control. So everyone is frustrated. And the Art world is the easiest one to cut parts off of.

Hi Claudia, I know what you mean; I don’t read as many blogs as I used to. But whenever your blog notification pops up in my inbox, I do think of you and send you kind thoughts! 🙂
It seems that WordPress has put up some barriers to commenting easily; it seems like I have to sign in on most blogs before I can comment, although I see on yours that log in is optional. Sometimes waiting for that sign-in box to appear is enough to keep me from commenting — but maybe it is why I am getting many fewer spam comments on my blog. And at least I don’t have to scroll through ads here.
I intend to keep writing, just because it helps me organize my thoughts and projects. I have recently heard the Stray Kids song Cinema, and some of its lyrics (in a mix of English and Korean) are: “When the lights come down, stories rise up; Never stop writing down until the scene is perfect, never let it go.” It’s a very beautiful song that is inspiring me right now!

Those lyrics inspire me, too. Sometimes I think it’s an old lady crisis, but the delays and roadblocks are everywhere. That.. and stop reading the news….
