Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen (-1963) is a visual artist living and working in Copenhagen.
His practice spans painting, installation and writing, and his art is, in whatever form, closely related to poetry and the poetic dimension.
Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schmidt-Rasmussen’s work is narrative and is positioned in an utopian intersection between the autobiographical and the general.
With a strong connection to literature, performance, and cultural surroundings, Schmidt-Rasmussen has consistently developed a practice that balances personal reflection with broader social themes.
Schmidt-Rasmussen’s practice has always been nomadic, drawing inspiration from everywhere.
The artist describes his painting as going on a journey, a journey where one’s travel plans often fall apart and one ends up in a completely different place from the original starting point.
Schmidt-Rasmussen wants to invite the audience into a universe that is different from where they are come from.
His paintings burst with color and rhythm, a surreal blend of lines and objects and designs that viewers can wander through.

What I enjoy about his art is that there is so much inside every painting. Not necessarily specific themes but random designs.
