Looking for Suggestions

Amy Brown

The other day I wrote that I was between crafts, holding out through the crummy snowy weather until the time I can walk and work outside. I’ve been trying to read a few of the classics, but they just don’t hold my interest.

Hence my question to you — do you have any good books to recommend?

I’m not really into romance novels or hard murder mysteries, and don’t care for over sexed novels or sci fi novels with names and places I can neither say nor pronounce.

I seem to remember mystery novels with cats who help solve the crime or adventures of running around Paris, but it’s been so long I could just as easily be making it up. I enjoy fun and quirkiness and adventures and surprise endings. I’m not good at judging book descriptions on Amazon — often the sound so much better than they read.

So my question is — do you have any good novels to recommend? Something I can read on an airplane or during my recently-designated reading time? Something I can’t put down? Something you’d recommend to good friends?

Thank you, my friends. Looking forward to your suggestions.

    1. I just read what Hamnet was about (the book, not the movie) and that is something right up my alley. I am embarrassed to admit that all this fuss about the upcoming movie and I didn’t know why or who or what they were talking about. Serves me right. Thank you! I will check that one out!

  1. Rita Mae Brown writes cozy murder mysteries with her dog and a couple of cats. Mrs Murphy and Sneaky Pie are the cats. It’s been several years (decades?) since I read them but they were great escapes for me in times of young children and insanity. Not too long and easy to read.

    1. You know — these days that’s just what I need. Not too long. On the nose. The book I took out a month ago was Lord of the Rings. I read it probably 40 years ago and loved it. Got the red leather version and everything. I read about 100 pages and saw how much I had to go and all I* could think about was how it followed the movie. I’m embarrassed. These sound perfect for short flight (or late night) reading. Thank you Thank you.
