Still Cleaning Cobwebs

A  cloudy, cool Caturday outside today. The boys are at the end of their fishing trip, leaving me to cook and clean up dog poop. (old dog) all by myself.  I’ve spread my current art project across the kitchen take like flood waters over the dam, but am a a stopping point, so  all is good with the world.

Sluggish-a-reno. Not even Haydn’s lively Paris Symphony #82 can get my mind nor body to function.

I don’t remember being sluggish like that at an earlier age. Life wouldn’t let me. With working two jobs, raising two kids, attending school functions, you had no choice half the time when you woke up and when you went to bed.

But this isn’t a blog today about the good ol’ days. Most times they’re never as “good” as you remember anyway. A day was just a day, a certain code restricting your freedom depending upon your age and schedule.

Sooooo ….. Are your Saturday’s fairly free? What kind of things do you plan when you don’t have to cook for company or run your kids to soccer games?

I’d love to know how you all spend your Saturday. Perhaps it would spiff me up and get me off the sofa to hear what your weekends are like. Plus, you’re from all over the world, and I’m sure location, age, weather, social influences and would put a wonderful spin on your exciting lives!

Any takers?

  1. My Saturday was yesterday in Ontario, Canada. And I had a list I made up while I had my morning coffee. of todo’s. And overall got done 5 outta the 12. They just move onto the next days list. Hehe. I am a goer but lately feeling fine just being a doing nothinger. But the fact is, I am doing something. I am resting my mind and my emotions, and accepting them just to be. Specially after the roller-coaster they’ve been on for months. I hung out with my new teen- we played computer games! And then my dad in his suit came by, there’s a bible conference going on near our houses so he was going to it after my place. And then started dinner and got my five month old to sleep for the night and teen and I ate and watched a movie ( his turn to pick) and we will pick it up where we left off tonight! ( Sunday )

    1. You see — that is the perfect Saturday. If I do 5 out of 12 I’m doing good! I don’t want to spend the final years of my life thinking that I can’t do the pleasurable things until I get my chores done. I’d hate to be passing on thinking I wish I’d have finished a painting instead of folding a basket of laundry. I love that you managed a dad and a baby and played computer games all in one day. You keep it going!!

  2. During growing season, I start my Saturday at the big Springfield MO farmers market. I have friends and or family who frequently join me. Coffee from the 2 women at Kingfisher booth is first stop. Then it’s on to find a sweet treat from one of several local bakers. After we’ve finished our breakfast, we shop for fresh produce. Summer afternoons I try to do the minimum amount of work and spend the rest of the time reading or enjoying a crafty project.

The rest of the year I guard my Saturday and try to keep as much of it for personal projects as possible.

  3. My Saturdays are just as hectic as every other day, not sleeping longer, just a “normal” day, cleaning, gardening, to the shop for fresh veg, meat and all that, plus the grandkids comming for this and that, they only live about 600mtr from our house.

    1. Your Saturdays are a lot like mine! I’m always trying to squeeze Grandkids in WHENEVER I can — and I love you throw gardening in there too. Does watering the indoor plants count as gardening? I do that too …

  4. I feel the same way you do. Actually, I’m still in my pajamas and it’s a little after four. I had big plans for today but I’m on an antibiotic that made me feel truly horrible this morning so I through in a load of laundry, then crawled onto my bet, after turning on all the lights in my room, leaned agains tthe head board with my cat and read all day long, except for food breaks. The house will be dusty tomorrow and I don’t care. It’s been a relaxing day and my cat and I spent time gogether. She just had her fifth birthday, but her one year birthday with me (yesterday). I got her at Orphans of the Storm. She’s wonderful but will not be held or sit on my lap. She will curl up next to me and nap or let me pet and kiss her, if we are on the bed, where she has a snuggy space. So, I feel better and had a nice slow day (unusual), just sitting around. And as soon as the short dark days appear, SAD enters my life and the flatness of life begins. I do not understand how in this age they can’t make medication that doesn’t make you sice while you take it.

    1. I understand the SAD part too. I don’t suffer from it directly, but it takes me a while to slide over to the fireplace-and-blanket security stage too. I find music lifts my soul alot, and the arts and crafts I’ve gotten into keeps my mind busy while taking it easy on my body. I love that you took the whole day to read and cuddle. I know they say you should keep your bedroom for sleep, but sometimes I just want to go to bed early, turn on the salt lamp, put some sleep jazz or whatever on, and read too. Sounds perfect to me.

      1. I feel soooo much better today and the medication didn’t bother me this morning. After just laying around yesterday, I think my body took a deep breath and said, “Okay, time to start again.” I never do that, but yesterday my voice just told me to take it easy and I’m glad it did. Woke up to snow today and a storm is coming. I need to get back to artwork as well. I thought you would understand and the SAD thing is not fun when it’s dark for so many months, it’s like a plug being pulled out of the wall, your energy is just stopped. That’s why I love summer. Plugged in again. 🙂

        1. I don’t know if you enjoy music, but having your favorites playing in the background does wonders for sadness too. As far as doing something creative, it can be a little or an overload. Either one helps your soul. So don’t feel bad if you have a lot of take-it-easy days. Your body knows what its doing, and will open up to more and more souly creative days for you in the future.

  5. Saturday is like any other day since we retired. I get up at around 7 (my dogs didn’t gte the memo about the time change, so it’s sometimes 6 or 6:30). Take the dogs fr a walk, have breakfast and check emails. Then we all go to the beach for another walk and a coffee or tea at our favourite beach cafe. Pick up groceries on the way home and work on the computer until lunch. Then do some writing, have a cup of tea and read outside. Today I actually baked a cake, so I had that with the tea. Take the dogs for a walk. Make dinner. Work on the computer, FaceTime with a friend in Canada, check emails. Sometimes I fit in a bit of housework but I try not to do too much of that. xo

    1. I LOVE your routine! That’s similar to mine since I retired. We wake up, have coffee, play and read on our phones for a bit, breakfast, then go about doing things both together and solo. I think in the back of my mind Saturday is still party day, looking back to Saturday Night Date Night a hundred years ago, so I try and do something “special” Saturday nights, even if it’s a movie and ice cream sundaes. Laundry is always an iffy proposition along with doing the dishes, too. There’s always tomorrow…..

        1. WooHoo! You know what’s funny? When I worked full time I was able to sleep til 8-9 o’clock with no problem. Now that I’m retired, I’m up at 6:30/7 — even if I’ve stayed up watching a movie till midnight! Everything is so cattywampus at times!

  6. The train station is near this quiet place I live. This saturday, I travelled into Manchester for the ride out. It was very busy because of the Christmas markets – a time of year I usually avoid, as I’m not keen on crowds. It was un-seasonably mild. I visited the library. There was a small exhibition of photos and poems. Then I looked around gallery. I’d seen all the exhibitions before, but it pleases me to go say hellp to my favourite bits n bobs. I.had spicy vegetable soup with ciabatta and butter. I didn’t actually buy the birthday gift I was looking for. I did buy a big pot of hair “mask”. Perhaps this one will miraculously control my chaotic “kinks”. Unlikely.

    1. I love a day like this. I do still try to keep the weekend a different vibe than weekdays, even though being retired one day blurs into the next. I love exploring new places too. Even if the new place is the next town over. I am so glad you get out and experience and re-experience life over the weekend in different ways. And I smile about your hair — truth is always kinky wants smooth straight and smooth straight would do anything for a curl to hold more than two minutes. I’m of the flat hair variety……

    1. YES~~ CREATING!!! (sorry for shouting). When I worked full time the weekend was the only time I could let go and Create. As my kids got older then moved away, I found I didn’t want to spend the day cleaning and doing dishes and paying bills. Up until a few years ago I’d use Saturday as my writing day. Crank up the tunes and let the magic flow!

    1. Are you free during the week, then? When do you get to play and create? I hope it’s often. I thought about a part time job, but lately I’ve been more flaky than usual so it’s a good thing I keep my wandering mind and A.D.D. to myself in my own home. Squeeze it in when you can!
