Faerie Paths — Life

It’s market day in Cortona
The piazza is an ongoing party,
and everyone is invited.

Clichés converge
at this navel of the world.
You almost want to laugh,
but you can’t help feeling
these Italians know more
about having fun than we do.

I eat a hot grape
from the market,
and the violet sweetness
breaks open in my mouth.

It even smells purple.

  1. The book is much different than the movie, which I also loved. I read and enjoyed the Peter Mayle books and watched the series on TV. Another one that is a fun read is Driving Over Lemons by Chris Stewart which is about a young couple who move to Spain and buy an abandoned farm house in Andalucia which they attempt to renovate.

  2. I have not read the book, but I love the movie! If you like those kinds of books, try A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle — it’s from 1991 but its a delightful read about a couple who are remodeling a 200 year old house in France.
