Roger Hopkins is a stone sculptor and landscape artist in Desert Hot Springs, California.
In the late 1990s Hopkins moved to the California desert to pursue his stone artistry.
His cut, chiseled and polished works, in various phases of rough-hewn and silky-smooth finishes, often have the odd combination of being abstract and practical.
The artist uses local granite and stone from surrounding states.
Hopkins believes that boulders have a spiritual relationship with us and the beauty of the stone should remain paramount in his sculptures.
“You get a deep connection to having been around and investigated how these ancient stoneworkers actually worked, and you get a feeling of brotherhood with them,” Hopkins shares.
“You get a respect for what they were trying to do, and you want to do your best; you’re fighting to bring some of this ancient megalithic works into present day.”

Now there’s something different! What a difficult medium to work with. The amount of effort he put into his art! Amazing!

Besides blowing off chunks of granite, I have no idea how he makes holes in rock so precise! Ha!

And you know where I found this artist? (laughs first) … we were watching an episode of Ancient Aliens (I get such a kick out of that out-of-this-world show) and he was one of the artists/consultants in the ancient structures segment! Who knows who lies in the background of TV shows???
